The Paleo Diet
The Paleo Diet is a nutritional plan based on the presumed diet of Paleolithic humans. It is based on the premise that human genetics have scarcely changed since the dawn of agriculture, which marked the end of the Paleolithic era, around 15,000 years ago, and that modern humans are adapted to the Paleolithic diet.

- In the US 79-95% of teens have acne; acne can affect young children, teens, young adults and middle aged adults.
- The studies showing that diet plays no role in the production of acne had serious flaws which led to incorrect conclusions.
- Dr. Cordain studied populations around the world and found that diet was in fact closely related to the incidence of acne.
- The Kativan Islanders living off the coast of Ne Guinea and a remote population in Paraguay are almost completely free of acne; these people live and eat in their traditional non-Western influenced manner.
- The typical US diet is comprised of approximately 70% refined sugars, cereals and grains, and dairy products.
- The typical Western diet results in a pro-inflammatory state in the body, which contributes to many Western diseases, including acne.
- The mechanisms by which dairy, grains and sugars contribute to acne is complex and involves: 1) Increasing the level of Insulin in the body, which stimulates the production of sebum (oil) and other pro-inflammatory substances and (2) impaired zinc absorption.
